The Pirate Lures Associates

David Norman – Owner of Angling Adventures West Cork

“Hi, I’m David Norman owner/operator of Angling Adventures West Cork. I began my fishing journey at the age of seven on the rivers and lakes of South East England. The estuary near my home with its vast mudflats, tidal channels, fish and birds were a constant source of interest and fasciation that continues here in West Cork to this day.”

“Bass fishing became my passion in the mid noughties and since then I’ve devoted a significant amount of time to unravelling it’s mysteries, both in West Cork and in all of the recognised bass fishing counties of Ireland, sometimes alongside some of the best bass fishing guides and anglers there are and mostly alone just enjoying every aspect of it all. Kayak fishing now takes me beyond these shores and has become a special addition to my angling activities. I look forward to sharing these very special places and experiences with you, rod in hand.”

“Keep Casting!’ – David Norman

Damion Fryer – Expert Wrasse Consultant

“I’ve been fishing now since 1979 spending many years fishing around the ponds and canals in Cheshire, catching a variety of species. It was when targeting pike that I started to use lures, predominately jointed plugs.”

“A move to Cornwall in 2000 saw me swap freshwater for salt and this is when I started lure angling full time. I spent a few years using general lures for species such as wrasse, bass, pollock, mackerel and garfish as well as spending time fishing LRF style for the mini species that are present in our waters.”

“In recent years though, my attention has turned to targeting the hard fighting ballan wrasse from the rocky coastline around south Cornwall, so much so that I spend around 95% of my fishing time targeting this species. They come in an array of colours, hit hard and fight even harder, especially when using lure tackle. In 2022, I managed over 300 wrasse, all lure caught, with 32 going over 4lb and the best weighing 5lb 9oz.”

“In December 2023 I caught my new PB on the Pirate Lures Lugger Ned, weighing in at 6lb 5oz, which features in the photo above.”

“I’ve worked with companies such as Predator Tackle, HTO, Sufix Lines, VMC Hooks and Rapala. I contribute to Sea Angler Magazine and have previously written for Total Sea Fishing Magazine, Pike and Predators, Catch Cult Magazine and the LAS Journal.”
